12 Adrenaline activities in South Australia

Are you an Adrenaline junkie in South Australia looking to do some cool, unique and fast-paced activities? Adelaide might not be known for adventure like Queenstown New Zealand but sure has it’s list of adrenaline activities that will get your heart racing.

Shark Cage Diving

Shark Cage Diving is an experience you can only do in SA (South America, South Africa and South Australia). I’ve done this and I’m telling you it will get your heart pumping. Australia is known for it’s great white sharks so you gotta be sure to jump into a cage and experience this. This is done in Port Lincoln, the Great White Shark capital of Australia. There are a few charters to choose from and they take you out to an island where this Aussie icon hunts it’s meals. Good luck. If I don’t hear from you again I’ll know why. Read our list of Charters offering Shark Cage Diving.

Helicopter Flights in McLaren Vale

Maybe not as heart-pumping as Shark Cage Diving but this is a really fun experience! Jump from winery to winery in your own personal helicopter. This is a real Adelaide adventure and combines two of my favourite things, being scared of heights of getting drunk! Experience McLaren Vale from a birds eye view by seeing the vineyards and cellar doors way up high.

Tandem Skydive

Adelaide Tandem Skydiving will definetely get your heart racing, if not I suggest going to a doctor. With offers available on Red Balloon Adelaide you can get a great discount no strings attached. I take that back! The parachute does have strings attached. It’s one of those bucket list items you have to do and it’s one of those things that you can casually bring up in every conversation you have from now on after you’ve done it.

Kilsby Sinkhole Diving

I did this one this year! It’s absolutely incredible. It’s terrifying to be 12 metres down and look up at the sun shining through into the sinkhole and know you have to keep holding your breath for another 12 metres as you ascend. I did a freediving course in Mount Gambier and an experience like this is definetely a must do for adventure-loving South Australians.

Canoe the Coorong and sleep on the beach

The Coorong is a beautiful part of South Australia and in my opinion one of the least talked about. Kilometres of gorgeous beaches this experience puts you in a canoe to paddle your way past pelicans, emus and wild Australian animals to find yourself a remote beach. Pitch a tent and eat your packed dinner on a secluded beach as you watch the sunset over the canoe. This experience is absolutely incredible and showcases Adelaide’s coastal scenery at it’s finest.

Canoe Ship Wreck in Port Adelaide

Last Canoe experience I swear! I wanted to include this one as well as it’s a really fun time. Paddle your canoe amongst the ship wrecks of Port Adelaide. Maybe even get greeted by some wild dolphins in the Port Adelaide River! Get your adventure on in Adelaide and the best part is that it’s not far from the Adelaide CBD so you won’t have to book time off work or spend your entire weekend paddling.

Rock Climbing in Onkaparinga

Rock Climbing in Onkaparinga puts you out in the wilderness, climbing rockfaces and battling your fear of heights. It’s a really fun time and will definetely be a great conversation starter for the morning murmurs of Monday morning in the office. Located close to McLaren Vale be sure to head down to a local brewery after to reward yourself for your Adelaide adventure filled day. Speaking of, here’s a list of McLaren Vale’s best breweries.

Goolwa Surf Lessons

South Australia is famous for 2 things, being South of Australia and it’s great surf. Goolwa Surf Lessons are fun for the family, a great solo adventure and also a Adelaide fun date idea. If you’re in South Australia and haven’t surfed then stop surfing the web and go grab a board! Jump in the water this summer, or bring a wetsuit in winter and learn how the pros do it (and then tell me because I have no idea).

Yorke Peninsula Paintballing

Now not many can say they’ve done it (not that they died, but because it’s a hidden gem). Yorke Peninsula Paintballing is a long shot, because it’s a bit of a drive and involves shooting. This my friend is a fantastic play on words. Grab some buddies and make the drive to this awesome adrenaline-filled activity in South Australia. Being out in the middle of nowhere, scared for your life will definetely get your heart racing.

Jetski in Goolwa South Australia

Ever jetski’d, jetskied, jetskeed? I can’t spell but I can tell you that the Jetski experience in Goolwa is incredibly fun! Racing in the water is a blast and such a fun extreme sport to try. It makes for a great Bachelor party / Bucks party activity as well so check out our Adelaide Bucks Party activity list if you’re in need for ideas!

Scenic Flights in Flinders Ranges

I (the writer of what you’re reading) did the Flinders Ranges scenic flight this year. You might be thinking a plane trip isn’t really an adrenaline activity in South Australia? Well you haven’t done it yet so hold your horses mate. A plane so small you can reach the front and back by stretching your arms out will definetely get your heart racing. My partners fingers were buried so deep in my legs I look like I was attacked by a dinosaur. This is a must do bucket list activity in Flinders Ranges, South Australia.

Hot Air Balloon rides in Barossa Valley

Not as fast-paced as other Adelaide stress-inducing activities but I had to put it on the list as it includes heights and I don’t know about you, but I personally cannot fly, so these activites scare me a bit. It’s a really fun date idea in Barossa, and South Australia is famous for these Hot Air Balloons so stop waiting and book a ticket!

Scuba Diving in Rapid Bay

I said 12 activites I know, but I’m a generous ghost writer alright. I care about my faceless readers of this article. Here’s a 13th Adrenaline fueled Adelaide-based activity. I got my Scuba Divers lisence in 2020 and I’ll say being 15 metres deep under Rapid Bay jetty looking up as the rays dance on the water’s surface will make your jaw drop. Hopefully not actually, the oxygen tanks are really helpful when scuba diving. Here’s a list of my favourite scuba diving spots in South Australia.
